I loved Red Rock Ranch 1: Lucy's Chance and have been eagerly awaiting Red Rock Ranch 2: Showdown where author Brittney Joy delves into Lucy and Taylor's very different lives. The characters were well-developed, the plot flowed and had a great balance of action, conflict and good-old horse riding scenes, most capturing the stress and triumph and range of emotions that competitors feel at a show. Though the majority of the novel is about Taylor's week at a prestigious horse show, Brittney Joy also creates relatable characters--both Taylor and Lucy love their horses, have their eye set on someone special and have troubles and insecurities of their own that they have to overcome. I highly recommend this book to any age (there is some romance but thankfully, it is completely appropriate and chaste, which I prefer) and will satiate any horse-crazy reader's need for a well-written novel!-Rachael ElikerAuthor of Headed for the Win
Great sequel to start off this series! I liked that the story picked up right after the conclusion of the first book so we didn't miss anything. Bringing in Taylor as a viewpoint character was a terrific idea, and you really start to sympathize with her as the story progresses. The new supporting characters were great, too - you loved them or hated them, depending on their role. Nice little twist towards the end, too, that you don't see coming. Overall a great follow-up!! Looking forward to book #3...and hoping for more of Casey. :-)
I think I liked this book even more than the first! Following two view points, we get to know the character Taylor better, and she grew on me as the story progressed. So many of the scenes took me right back to my days working at a horse ranch, and I could really relate to the characters and experiences. The last scene was very neat and something I'd love to see done on the big screen! I look forward to Joy's next book in the series. Recommended to all the horse lovers out there, and those who'd like a peek into the horse world.
Absolutely loved this book. I think I might have enjoyed it more than the first in series. I appreciated the growing and changing relationship between the two main female characters, and the addition of another attractive cowboy (who wouldn't?). Lucy's continued work with Chance is a delight to read about, and will appeal to anyone who has ever sat on a green horse. Overall a very fun read, and one that I ate up. Fans of the YA equestrian genre should not miss out on this series!
Fun and enjoyable read, and I loved the dual perspectives allowing us to get to know both characters and see both sides of the story. Have added to my list of recommended reads!- Kate Lattey, author of "Dare to Dream" and "Dream On"
Amazing story and exciting sequel to Lucy's Chance. Enjoyed the exploration of other charachter's and their interactionwith Lucy. The author painted such a vivid picture of horses and shows, felt like I was there. Great read, did not want to put down.
There are major changes in Taylor and Lucy's friendship! It's hard not to include a spoiler, but I'll do my best not to. Yet again another fab horse themed read from Brittney. While I thought I knew the characters who were in book 1, I soon discovered a whole other side to Taylor, who learns to be nice (eventually). I like that it took time and certain horse centred events for Lucy to see a softer side to Taylor, who continued to wow me with her personality change.The horsemanship is really high, with events I'd never heard of which had me gripped to my seat as the action ungolded. The horses are sweet with their personalities, and I loved learnig more about riding, although still not understanding what a lead change is.The 3rd star of the show who I hope will be in future books is Tiera (sorry if it's not the right spelling). Saying she loves pink is an understatement. My eyes went wide at her introduction, she is so sweet, very enthusiastic, manages not to be tok much and is all round crazy in a wonderful way. She deserves a book which centres more on her: she adores ballet as well as riding, and provides Taylor with a secret weapon to get her own back on someone who mistreated her and deserves a phenomenal punishment, which they duly get.
