Will Rogers reportedly said there were "...four unique cities in the United States; Boston, New Orleans, San Francisco and San Antonio".Dr. Richter validates that notion with her well designed and conceived presentation of my fair city. For new comers, tourist and natives the work is effective at several levels as it serves as a guide for walkers, day trippers and those of us who have lived here for decades just wanting to catch up on opportunities we missed, ignored or wrote off as inconsequential. So if you have the urge to chillax and explore the inner sanctum of "Sanantone" buy this fun and very entertaining book.If not remember our place is only a 90 minute drive north on IH 35 where you can go visit our more hyperactive sibling city and contribute to keeping it (Austin) wierd.

The book is a delight. I lived in San Antonio for many years, but this guide was still very fun and pointed out several places to visit that I had not yet experienced. Great guide for any and all visitors.

Dr. Richter is an amazing professor right here in San Antonio, Texas! Follow her travels with this book.

What a great resource! And so many fun things.

Not bad. Most of the places were just common sense.

Recently had the opportunity to pick up this book. My experience with similar books has been that they're usually negligible in quality, editing, and content. Very much not the case with this one. Denise Richter did an absolute smashing job capturing all the beauty and bustle of San Antonio and did so with a humorous and engaging writing style, and not surprisingly did so without editing blunders. Many of the things listed I was only marginally aware of but have found many new places and things to check out in the coming months. Many interesting facts are presented too, such as: King William neighborhood is the first historic neighborhood in Texas, or, that the remains of Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, and William B. Travis are located at the San Fernando Cathedral. All-in-all, a great book, whether you've lived here all your life, or are just passing through for a few days I would recommend this book to everyone.

My wife and I are going to San Antonio in October to stroll down the beautiful River Walk, dine on Tex-Mex food and drink (the author says that you can buy a margarita for only $1.50 at Taco Cabana), visit the old missions and The Alamo (of course). This little book is so loaded with information that to experience everything would take a lot longer than the 5 days we'll be there. Definitely 5 stars.

This is the first time I have ever read a travel book cover to cover in one sitting, but this book is so engaging that I couldn't put it down. It is filled with interesting information, written with love, wit, and remarkable skill. A perfect guide for newcomers to the city but also a great source of new places to explore for those who already know and love San Antonio.
